Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.
-Mark Twain
When on TDY, I have usually worked swing shift. This go-round, I chose days. Let me explain why.
Being this is my third month away from home in the last year, I wanted to try something different. This time I chose day shift just because I get the worst part of the day over with. This way I “eat the frog” in the beginning of the day. With that out of the way I can enjoy my afternoon.
I have noticed on swing shift, I waste a lot of my morning. As the month grows longer I sleep later and later. While I shouldn’t, it gets easier to dread going to work all morning. That kind of negativity is a bad start.
That may not seem like procrastination, but if I could put it off long enough, even forever, I would. I hate TDY work. After a rough day, I can procrastinate going to bed.
So what I have learned in life is it is best to go ahead and get the miserable part of your day over with early and enjoy the rest of your day.
I have learned you forget less when packing if you pack a few days in advance instead of the night before. Traveling is less stressful if you are on the other side of the security gates of the airport with time to spare.
That’s my tip for today.
